ABOUT CONFERENCE

Conference Vision
Reduce global chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats by raising public awareness of and facilitating governmental coordination and education on CBRN safety and security policies, operational practices, and technical solutions.
Conference Objectives
The Fifth World CBRN Safety and Security Conference represents a qualitative leap in the evolution of Iraq's approach to CBRN safety and security. Expanding this forum to more robustly include international and regional attendees and speakers, shifting the conference focus to be solutions-oriented, and soliciting program feedback earlier in the planning process will result in clearer outcomes and increased buy-in as we work collaboratively to solve some of the world's most challenging security threats. Conference objectives in 2020 include:
  • Identify and develop an action plan for addressing Iraq's top 2-3 CBRN related vulnerabilities or gaps.
  • Identify mechanisms that improve ministerial communication and coordination on CBRN security efforts.
  • Assess existing CBRN safety and security workshops and training courses available to Iraq's CBRN community to determine if more or different capacity building engagements are needed.
  • Introduce the proposal to establish a National-level CBRN Security Training and Education Center to socialize benefits, approvals, processes, timeline, and resources required.
  • Highlight the role and status of Information Security in the context of CBRN security.
  • Develop an action plan for enhancing the goverment capabilities to anticipate and respond to CBRN hazards.
  • Conduct a roundtable discussion with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to develop a strategy for improving or establishing secure transport for banned, sensitive, or hazardous CBRN materials.
  • Recommend solutions to address the challenge of excessive warehouse stockpiles of CBRN materials.
  • Assess current methods for disposal of excess and expired medicines at the local and institutional levels.
  • Continue to treat with CBRN security as a regional institution to promote regular integration with neighbouring countries.
